Elsecar at the Races 2023

April in the UK can be a mixed bag in terms of weather, over the years we’ve seen it all. As the weekend of Elsecar at the Races approached the weather gods seemed to be on the shows side.

For us, the trip over to Doncaster Racecourse the venue and now the home of the ‘Elsecar‘ car show is one of the best drives out of all the shows.

Leaving South Manchester we head up over the tops towards Barnsley via the picturesque Woodhead Pass.

Proper driving roads allowing the cars to stretch their legs and blow the winter cobwebs away.

We arrived later than expected and were happily surprised to see a queue out the door, all waiting to purchase tickets and get inside.

Once inside we could see how busy the show was. It had to be one of the busiest I’ve seen pre and post covid.

The inside show halls was a mixture of all brands, with a strong showing for MK1 and MK2 Golfs. A lot of time and effort had gone in to pre show preparation. Impressively clean cars and engine bays on show everywhere.

The outside space at Doncaster Racecourse is vast, with room for show and shine cars, club displays and traders. The weather was perfect, nice cloud cover with a few patches of blue sky, making for great outside photos.

Elsecar at the Races has gone through many transitions over the years. It was originally the Club GTI mega meet at Elsecar Heritage Centre. Which morphed into the Elsecar Show.

When the move to Doncaster Racecourse came about – ‘Elsecar at the Races’ was born.

For 2024 and beyond it marks another transition into Auto Culture 24- Same vibes, same venue and same time of year.
